Where to Sell Handmade Products in India: A Reseller’s Guide

The right place to sell is where your customers can find you and where you can manage the work well. For a reseller, that may begin with a home business or a shop and develop into exhibitions, social selling or an online marketplace. You do not need to start everywhere at once.

This guide helps Indian resellers compare those routes. Platform information was checked against the official sources linked below on 9 October 2026. Rules, fees and available features can change, so check the current requirements for your business and products before buying stock for a particular channel.

Start with the customer and your working routine

Ask three questions: Who can I reach? How will I show the products? Can I reliably handle enquiries, packing, delivery and after-sales questions? A channel that suits your schedule and product range is more useful than a long list of accounts you cannot maintain.

Home-based selling and an existing shop

A home business can begin with a focused selection, clear photographs and a simple way for interested customers to ask questions. A shop lets customers see the product directly and compare options. In either case, keep stock records, prices and customer commitments organised.

Consider storage space, visitors, local operating requirements and how customers will receive their purchases. Avoid tying up the full budget in stock before allowing for presentation, packing and delivery.

Exhibitions, fairs and pop-up stalls

These settings let you observe reactions and hear questions in person. Before booking, ask the organiser about the expected audience, stall size, display rules, electricity, setup times and all charges. Attendance estimates are not sales guarantees.

Plan a small display around a recognisable theme. Show prices clearly, prepare accurate product information and give interested visitors a way to find your business later. Record sales and enquiries separately so that a busy stall does not disguise a poor result after costs.

WhatsApp Business and social discovery

WhatsApp Business offers a business profile, product catalogues, catalogue links, quick replies and labels for organising conversations. These can help you show a range and manage questions. A catalogue or a message is not proof that payment, stock reservation and delivery have all been agreed.

Use Instagram or Facebook content to show your range and direct interested people to a clear enquiry route. Feature and commerce availability vary, so do not build your plan around an in-app checkout until you have confirmed access. Use your own product photographs and respect customers’ communication preferences rather than adding people to unsolicited promotions.

Meesho

Meesho’s seller platform provides product listing and order-management routes for sellers. Its published onboarding information asks for an active bank account and a GSTIN, or an eligible Enrolment ID/UIN route for sellers without a GSTIN.

The official non-GST and composition-GST guidance limits those routes to sales within the seller’s registered state and sets eligibility conditions. Read the current conditions rather than assuming that “no GSTIN” means unrestricted nationwide selling. Check category eligibility, shipping, returns and the total charges for your actual products.

Amazon.in and Flipkart

Amazon India’s registration guide covers business details, tax information, pickup address, shipping method, bank account and product listings. Its tax-exempt-product route is category-dependent; it should not be assumed to apply to every handmade product.

Flipkart’s seller information describes registration, listings and fulfilment options across product categories. Compare the current documentation, category and brand requirements, fees, returns and dispatch responsibilities on both platforms.

For sourced products, keep supplier invoices and supporting product information. Check whether you can list under your own brand, whether an existing catalogue entry applies and whether category approval or other documentation is needed. Adding your label does not automatically secure approval. Start only when the product and your selling arrangement meet the platform’s rules.

ONDC-connected seller applications

ONDC is a network accessed through participating applications. Seller Network Participants connect sellers through their seller applications. Compare the relevant participants’ categories, service areas, charges, logistics, support and settlement arrangements. Joining one application does not remove the need to check its terms and your product eligibility.

Your own online store

Your own website gives you a place to present your range under your business name. You also take responsibility for bringing visitors to it, keeping information current and arranging the buying experience. Allow for the store, payments, delivery, returns handling, customer support and applicable compliance costs.

A useful first step is a clear catalogue and enquiry process you can maintain. Add complexity when there is a reason for it and you can support the extra work.

A special caution about handmade-only marketplaces

A product can be handmade by someone else and still be an ordinary resale item for you. Etsy restricts reselling to specific permitted cases. Buying finished handmade goods from a supplier and adding your label does not make them your original handmade work. Do not treat Etsy as a general resale channel for Aura products.

Compare the full cost before choosing

  • Reach: Can your intended customer find you here?
  • Eligibility: Are your business, category, products and branding arrangement permitted?
  • Costs: What will fees, packaging, shipping, promotions and returns cost?
  • Work: Can you maintain stock accuracy and meet dispatch and support expectations?
  • Cash flow: When will you receive the sale proceeds, and what deductions may apply?

Choose one main route, learn from real customer questions and track the result after costs. Expand when your process is dependable. Ask a qualified adviser about tax or legal requirements specific to your situation.
